Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is the largest Arab city in the Middle East in terms of population and size. It is the fifteenth largest city in the world by urban size, with a population of approximately 2,043,541 and an area of 214 square kilometers. Cairo's huge population is attributed to its spatial location along the Nile, which is the main source of water supply in the desert country. In addition to the existing structures of western-style hotels and apartment complexes facing the Nile, the site of Heliopolis is represented by the Pyramids of Giza in its southwest part and the Obelisk in the northeast.
Other architectural monuments from the Roman, Arab and Turkish eras can be found in Cairo, in addition to the Grand Bazaar, department stores, cinemas, hotels, and houses from the modern era, as well as a large medieval city with more than 400 historical monuments such as mosques, mausoleums, and huge stone gates dating back to the to 130 years old.
